First list attempts

Hiya guys,

Blogger seems to be having a bit of trouble posting some of my posts which have been scheduled for posting; so while I'm trying to resolve this issue (the next few parts of the army list building series are due out) I thought I'd give you my first go at a 1500 point list!

Without further ado

Inquisitor
This guy is here to provide support for the deepstrikers (in the form of the 3 servo skulls, reducing scatter for each of the 3 terminator squads), and helping them either come in earlier or later (depends on the mission / opposing army) with his +/- 1 to reserve rolls.

x5 Terminators
These will nearly always deepstrike in, on turn two on a 3+; mainly to take up the midfield and distract my opponent from my fire-base near my deployment. Hopefully they'll claim or contest an objective at the end of the game too. The incinerator should help if I'm facing a horde army, I didn't feel the Psycannon was necessary because I already have tank busting support, and I just didn't have the points.

x5 Grey Knights (in Razorback)
Just here to add some more fire support, and take objectives; hopefully taking a low profile role but can counter assault if needed.

Dreadnought
The 3 x2 T/L Autocannon guys can pump out 6 strength 8 T/L shots per turn, this should hopefully pop transports for my Termis to take out. They should be in cover, which should help them survive that bit longer.

Conclusion

I'm sure you can see how this list should work out, however, it'll take some play testing before I can give you any more feedback, so stay tuned for that as well as the remainder of the 'Army list 101' series. Any questions about the list feel free to leave a comment.

Until then...

  1. Howdy, I've been following your Orks blog for a while, and followed you here. With 2 TL autocannons per dread, you should actually be generating 12 twin linked S8 shots per turn. They're earned the nickname "Rifleman Dread" in the local scene at least, based off the similarity in appearance and function to the old Battletech mech. Also, most of the players around here aren't fans of mastercrafting as it only lets you reroll 1 miss. Why not take the 15 points you saved and give the inquisitor a hellrifle so he can plink across the board? Yeah, it's not a huge game changer, but I think the rifle is a better points sink than 3 mastercraftings. Just my $0.02, though. :)

    Thanks for the blog!

  2. Doh! I knew there was something I'd written wrong, I just couldn't place it! Thanks :D

Chances are the Inquisitor will probably stay hidden in one of the Razorbacks to avoid getting picked off on turn one before he can help call in reserves, so giving him a ranged weapon won't be all the useful in my opinion.

I don't normally master craft, but since I'm only getting 2/3 hammer attacks, being able to re-roll that one miss can be the difference in assaults sometimes. However, as soon as I've given it some playtesting, I'll make sure that you guys know!

  3. Personally, I don't think razorbacks full of strike squads work in this army. Your paying premium points for models that at the end of the day are only T 4 with a 3+ save. This means they die just as easily as normal marines, but you usually don't have enough models to even this out if you take razorbacks. Personally, I think any strike squad with less than 10 men won't ever make their points back.

just my $0.02 however. Have fun playtesting them.

(p.s. if you ever have the extra points, you should try an inquisitor with a daemonblade. Not the most competitive thing, but it is a heck of a lot of fun just to see what his powers are, and you never know, you could make him better than marine captains if your lucky, and it is only 40 points for the inquisitor with daemonblade, so not a huge points sink.)

  4. I agree with tim about the razorbacks with the 5 man squads, i just dont think they pack enough clout on there own, if they work as a group maybe but they would not be my first choice i dont think. (having said that i have yet to playtest the new grey knights as they are still on my workbench waiting lol)
I was wondering tho would it be better to drop a dread for a vindicare assasin? good for poping tanks as well as taking out certain models within a unit IE powerfists, banners, IC's etc? (get the extra 15 points from the mastercasting)

  5. Well, I've been a bit behind with my posting :3 but, you can expect my finished list out today, with a better explanation of my general tactics.

On another note; I find the razorbacks are there to assist in fire support, and take objectives, no necessarily add to the combat potential of the army.
